چکیده

D eveloping a single-processor platform is bad enough. Adding another to the mix could drive even the best developers over the edge, especially when the mix involves a general-purpose processor (GPP) and a DSP. Take heart. A new way of thinking and working allows DSP processes to make operating system calls that are processed by the GPP. Likewise, the operating system running on the GPP can control the processes on the DSP. Allowing standard process creation mechanisms to be used to load and launch DSP processes and allowing DSP processes to make standard A DSP process can behave like any other GPP-based Linux process and access the same Linux kernel system calls and GPP-based hardware.

Abstract This is a survey about the networking related features provided by embedded Linux. In this survey, we will summarize the major reasons why Linux is increasingly pervasive in embedded systems market. Seeing the trend that “everything to be connected”, we will focus on the networking related features provided in embedded Linux, and compare several distributions. We will also put an eye o...

A Survey of Embedded Operating System

This paper presents a survey of several major embedded operating systems. It analyzes several design issues of embedded operating system, such as architecture, memory management, IPC, process management, network support, and the impact of hardware limitation and application requirement of embedded system. We analyzed three prevailing embedded operating systems: Windows CE, embedded Linux and QN...

Software Spotlight Guidelines for Choosing Bootloaders for Embedded Systems

The selection of bootloaders for embedded systems has expanded since the late 1990s; not just in the number of bootloaders on the market, but also in the number of platforms and operating systems supported by each bootloader. This article stands as a guide to selecting a bootloader for embedded systems to aid in reaching time-to-market goals by reducing redundant system, debugging, and feature ...

An Application-Oriented Linux Kernel Customization for Embedded Systems

How to reconfigure a general purpose operating system (GPOS) into an embedded operating system has attracted attention for application-specific domains. Linux is currently one of the popular candidates for GPOSs. Although Linux has tools for kernel reconfiguration by letting users add or remove desired function modules, the best schemes of reconfiguring Linux according to a specific embedded sy...

Real-Time Linux Kernel Design, Minimization and Optimization

ion: This paper presented a general discussion about real-time Linux kernel design, minimization and optimization. A specific example of a real-time Linux kernel was discussed in details. Specifically, it covered the following topics: real-time operating system requirements; why the general Linux can not meet those real-time requirements; RTOS implementation approaches; mechanisms used in Real-...
